Good Afternoon Friends!
I hope you all have had a good week! Well Valentine's Day is coming up in a couple days and I wanted to write a blog post about God's love. I know some of you have probably many messages and sermons about God's love, but sometimes we need a reminder. There are some of you that may not know about God's love and what it can do for your life. Well today, I want to focus in on God's love and what it can do for our lives. What you will learn may be a reminder or it may be something new that you never knew before until now. Before we jump in, go grab your favorite cup of coffee or tea and sit back and relax as we dive into God's love!
When we are born into this world, we are destined to and for love. Love is more than a feeling, it's a choice as I stated in my last blog post. So often we go off of our feelings, but that is not what God has called us to do. Yes, He gave us feelings, but He also gave us free choice. We make lots of choices in a day such as what we want to eat for our meals, what we are going to wear, what we are going to buy at the store or how we are going to plan our days. Well, we also have the choice to either be bitter or better, angry or joyful, to encourage or bring someone down with our words. We also have the choice to choose to love others as ourselves and it's not only a choice, but also a command in God's word.
The only way to love others is to receive God's love for ourselves, when we do this, we are able through Christ to love others. Can I just say that it's okay to get wrapped up in God's love for you! He loves you and this is the reason why He sent His only Son because of the love that He has for you! You see if He had not have sent His Son, we wouldn't have the promises that He promised His people long ago. We wouldn't be a part of the family of God, and we still be making animal sacrifices for our sins. How would it feel to bring in a goat or cow to be sacrificed every week to church? That would be something, wouldn't it? So, what does God's love do for our lives?
I'm glad you asked! God's love helps us to love others and ourselves the way God loves. His love helps us to see the best in people and to be at peace. We are flawed beings, but the God's perfect love casts out all fear. Fear of pleasing people, fear of trying to be perfect all the time, yes, we are to strive for perfection, but only with God's help. If we don't allow God to help us with our imperfections, then our trying to be better will be done in vain. God's love helps us to be at peace and to live a peaceful life. It also lets us know that God loves us no matter what we do wrong or right. His love is unconditional which means there are no strings attached. He loves us regardless of what we do. Now does this mean we are to go out and sin just for the sake of sinning? Absolutely not, even though God loves us, that doesn't mean we are to take advantage of His love.
Think about a relationship between parents and a child. Those parents love their child even when they mess up, but that doesn't mean that the child can keep on doing things they know they are not supposed to do just because their parents love them. No, if that child does something wrong, they will receive the proper discipline for their actions out of love of the parents because they do not want that child to keep making bad choices in life. Because they care about the welfare of their child, they will train that child in the way they are supposed to go according to God's word. It's the same thing with us, He will train and teach us the way to go so that we will not continue to make those same mistakes because He loves us.
So, my friends, I want you to think about God's love for you today and find scriptures about His love and meditate on them. He loves you so very much and He wants you to know His love for you. Seek Him in prayer and ask Him to reveal His love to you, you might be surprised with what He shows you! I pray that the Lord blesses you and keeps you! Shalom, until next time!
