The Sabbath Is For You

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I hope you are all doing well this week! I wasn't planning on writing another blog post till after the new year, but here we are with another one! I went for a walk about 30 minutes ago and I was inspired to write about the sabbath day or in hebrew shabbat. Now I know I written a few posts about the sabbath, but the Lord keeps showing me new things about the sabbath. In fact, I have even fallen in love with this wonderful day the Lord has given us. In this post, I will be sharing some new things the Lord has revealed to me and also some ideas to help you enjoy shabbat too! So if you would like to sit back and drink a cup of coffee or tea, please do! I am currently drinking some water and it's very refreshing after a walk. Let's begin!

So the Lord has revealed to me that Shabbat is a day that is supposed to be enjoyable, peaceful, and refreshing for the body and soul. It's a day to spend quality time with God and with our families. A day to really connect with God and loved ones. A day to not focus on work or anything that would distract you from your devotional time with God and family. I don't know about you, but after a long week being with 20 four year olds, I look forward to the weekend! All I can think about is not doing anything work-related or stressful. I want to slow down and take my time, fix a lovely cup of coffee and pull out my Bible and spend time reading God's word.

You see God not only wanted us to rest on this day, but to rest in Him! To spend quality time with Him, reading His word, listening to worship music, and in prayer. Also we need a day to recharge ourselves, to take time out or else we will be burned out on our work and daily to do lists. This is why so many go on vacation, they want to get away from the busyiness and relax. Well guess what, the Lord provided a day for us to relax, recharge, and unplug. Exodus 20:8-11 says, "You shall work 6 days and rest on the seventh." We are created in His image which means, we are to follow His ways and that includes resting on the Sabbath day.

So how can we apply this to our daily lives? Here are some ideas that I have been doing and that I am going to incorporate. Friday evening, I try to wind down after a long day and I will usually listen to some preaching or read a chapter out of my Bible before I go to sleep. I will also do communion either Friday evening or Saturday morning. On Saturday morning, I will make sure to rest my body and then I will wake up and make a cup of coffee and take time to read my Bible and pray. After this, I will make a nutrious and wholesome breakfast. I also like to go for a walk if it's nice weather and just enjoy the peace and quiet. I also enjoy the scenery and sounds of the birds chirping.

Some ideas that I want to try is to turn off my electronics for a little while so there's no distractions. I also want to try to plan ahead of some things that I would enjoy such as drinking a cup of tea and read a book. Also I enjoy embrodery, it's a quiet activity to do in the afternoon or evening time. I also love coloring, again, another quiet activity. These are a few things that I enjoy doing or want to incorporate. I like to change it up to keep it interesting. On warm days, I will usually go outside and read my Bible and jot down little notes in my journal. So here's a few ideas that may help you to enjoy your sabbath day with the Lord. Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect or religious, just do whatever the Spirit of the Lord is leading you to do! Well friends, I pray that this post has blessed you and encouraged you today to enjoy the sabbath! May the Lord bless you and keep you. Shalom, until next time!
